Hybrid Tomato

Tomato seeds of hybrid variety developed from reputed seed producing company are really highly paying to farmers who are growing the tomatoes fruits. Either, farmers are the growing tomatoes of open pollinated variety, or hybrid variety, cost of production of growing tomatoes will be almost same except the price of hybrid tomato seeds, but fruit yield of hybrid tomato seeds will be several times higher than the fruit yield of open pollinated variety. So, commercial growers generally adopt growing tomatoes of the hybrid type.

Hybrid tomato seeds are really made tolerant to diseases due to fungal, bacterial, viral or nematode attack. Private seed producing companies are producing tomato seeds of hybrid type. The tomato seed producing companies are developing tomato seeds of hybrid variety with the several traits such as high yielding, disease resistance, nematode resistance, heat tolerance, attractive fruit size, heavy fruit setting, keeping quality, transportation shock absorbing and many others.

Fruit yield from hybrid tomato is very high in comparison to the open-pollinated heirloom tomato varieties. Some farmers collect seeds from the hybrid tomato fruits to grow them next season. But they yield poorly. Hybrid tomato fruits contain seeds but the growing tomatoes from the seeds extracted from the hybrid tomato fruits are not high yielding. But some seeds extracted from some hybrid tomatoes can yield satisfactorily. So, the gardeners can examine the extracted seeds from the hybrid tomato fruit.

Farmers in the world have been growing tomatoes of a variety of tomato seeds. Some are growing tomatoes of hybrid type, some are growing tomatoes of open pollinated type, and some are growing tomatoes of heirloom tomato type. Commercial growers are running towards growing tomatoes of medium to large fruit size commercial varieties for huge commercial production to optimize profit. For it, they select modern hybrid cultivars of tomato, but they cannot select heirloom tomato variety for the commercial production.
