Antioxidant or antioxidants
Antioxidants are bio-chemicals as well as chemical substances that fight against harmful radicals formed by the oxidation of the cellular bio-chemicals. The harmful radicals are also called oxidants. If the antioxidants are not available in the cells, the harmful radicals will damage the internal structures of cells. The free radicals break down DNA, cell membrane and other cellular organelles too. The breakdown of such cell structures will accelerate aging process and make the life prone to life threatening diseases such as cancer, Parkinson’s diseases, and arthritis.
By the way, I want to note about the diseases: Parkinson’s disease is the disorder of nervous system that cannot be cured. Parkinson’s disease is characterized by the symptoms of trembling hands, lifeless face, monotone voice, and a slow shuffling walk. It is caused by the degeneration of dopamine producing brain cells. Dopamine is a biochemical or neurotransmitter found in brain. Dopamine is the precursor of epinephrine. Epinephrine is a hormone in our body. Arthritis is painful condition of a joint or joints.
If we are taking tomato fruits in addition to a variety of vegetables and fruits in small quantities, then cells in human body will have a variety of enough quantities of antioxidants. As the result of which the antioxidants will destroy the harmful effects of free radicals and will also repair the damaged cell structures. This way the antioxidants improve the defense mechanism and protect the individuals from several diseases such as cancer, hypertension, arthritis, and many life threatening diseases.
Vitamin A, vitamin C, lycopene of the tomato fruits are antioxidants. There are other antioxidants too in other colorful vegetables and fruits. In addition to the tomato fruits, some of the colorful vegetables and fruits such as orange, carrot, grape fruit, red grape, spinach, beet, broccoli, green beans, Brussels sprouts, berries, apricots, plums, peaches contain a variety of antioxidants. Intake of tomato fruits and a variety of colorful vegetables and fruits provides us a variety of antioxidants.
Intake of a variety of antioxidants is more effective to combat against the toxin producing mechanisms in our body than the intake of a single antioxidant containing fruit in large quantity. Based on the above information, intake of a variety of vegetables and fruits in small amount is better than the intake of a single vegetable in large quantity.
Some animal origin meat such as red meat also contain antioxidants as well as low quality low density lipoprotein and fish also contain antioxidant containing beneficial w-3-fatty acids (omega 3 fatty acids) in addition to harmful heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium; and pollutants. So the antioxidants and other nutrients of tomato fruits and a variety of plant origin antioxidants are better than animal origin antioxidants.
In addition to the above-mentioned vegetables that contain a variety of antioxidants; there are other plant products that contain some other useful antioxidants. The plants that contain such a variety of such antioxidants are ginkgo, turmeric, pine bark extracts, aloe vera, grape seeds, cascara sagrada, milk thistle. Many vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotine, lutein, lycopene, vitamin B2, coenzyme Q10, cysteine (an amino acid) are powerful antioxidants. They work against harmful free radicals or oxidants.
